Imminent Bad Weather to Mean Busy Days for any Castle Rock Body Shop

After the big hail storms during the later days of May, residents of cities like Castle Rock in Colorado may expect more of the same as rain, snow, and hail are expected during the remainder of early June. The Denver Post’s Kieran Nicholson reports:

“A national Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of eastern Colorado, including Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas Counties, but not Denver or Boulder. The watch expired at 10 p.m., but scattered warnings continued into the night.”

However, one warning may stand out for both car owners and proprietors of any accredited body shop in Castle Rock and other cities:

“Strong thunderstorms had been expected over northeastern Colorado Thursday evening, with some severe storms unleashing two-inch hail, winds up to 70 mph and possible tornadoes.”

The question is: how exactly does hail damage objects like cars? Basically, the extent of hail damage relies on two factors: hailstone size and wind speed.

Size

To be considered hail, the National Weather Service dictates that particle size must be greater than or equal to 0.2 inches. To be considered severe, on the other hand, particles must be 1 inch or greater. In various parts of Colorado, hailstones the size of golf balls (over 1 inch) peppered homes and vehicles from May 21-25, dealing extensive damage to property.

Wind speed

The speed at which a hailstone travels can greatly amplify the extent of damage to properties like cars. For instance: hail being blown by a 70 mile-per-hour wind is capable of dealing more damage than hail falling in light wind. In severe storm situations (probably like the one that hit parts of Colorado beforehand), hail size can often be greater than 1 inch combined with severe winds. Cars can suffer minor damages like broken windshields or unsightly dents; but taking into consideration the two-inch hail expected to befall Colorado, cars can even be totaled.

With the weather warnings in place, you might be better off parking your car inside your garage or any sturdy, roofed space. In the event, however, that you couldn’t save your car in time, it can still be repaired by a reputable auto body shop in Castle Rock, like Michael’s Auto Body and Glass, for a competitive price.
